I love this, although I wish you could purchase the designs like Nike ID. And this might not be good for people that are paralyzed by too many options. It could consume your day. Here are a couple I've made so far... Check it out here.

At Fat Cats

M/F Table

Bought some 4x4's of Cedar and had them cut to size. The plan is to adhere all the outside pieces and then let the center piece slide freely to act as a cup holder. Will probably drill to create a divot for the glass. Might try this design on a larger scale, maybe for a coffee table...

5 attributes of innovations

From the book: Iconoclast

First, the innovation must offer an advantage over existing products or ideas. Second, the innovation, although potentially novel, must still be compatible with existing value systems and social norms. Third, the complexity of the innovation will determine the rate at which it is adopted by other people. The more complex the innovation is, the lower the rate of adoption. Fourth, innovations should be triable. This allows potential users to try out the idea without much cost to themselves. Fifth, the results of the innovation must be visible to other people. Again, this allows potential users to judge the relative advantages of the innovation without having to try it out themselves.

The Colors of Peace

United Nations General Assembly resolution (A/Res/55/282) was unanimously adopted by UN member states, formally establishing an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace, fixed in the global calendar on 21 September - Peace Day.

The idea for the Colors of Peace would be to have each country's representative paint their states colors along-side all the other states.

Some Collected Thoughts

You can't shrink your way to greatness.
+
It takes courage to do what you want. A lot of other people have a lot of other plans for you.
+
Organizations change when you give something a name... If it has a name, they can talk about it.
+
It takes 99 percent of the time you spend just to be average. The remarkable stuff can happen in a flash.
+
Panic early, not late, and your fire drills will actually pay off.
+
Go out and get some inexperience... Put yourself in a position to discover something new.
+
The new hires in any organization are the first resource for generating great new ideas. Why? Because they have fresh eyes.
+
The enemy of new ideas is the familiar.
+
Any organization with more than one person in it is a place of compromise.

Socially unaware award goes to CVS

I purchased about 3 things and got a receipt that was about 40" long. This happens everytime I get something there... They need help...

Some highlights from the book, Change or Die by Alan Deutschman

Change is about selling not telling. It's about teaching as well as preaching. Instead of complaining that people don't follow your orders, you need to start training them in new skills.
+
...teach another skill to someone else. The idea is called "each one, teach one."
+
The act of caring ultimately instills the emotion of care.
+
People don't resist change; they resist being changed.
+
The idea is to escape from your expertise and become a novice in an entirely different pursuit. It's about taking on challenges that you'll be bad at for quite a while rather than always returning to pursuits you've been good at for many years.
+
No matter how successful we are in whatever we do, it's still vital to keep learning - to become successful at something else, something new. And the way to learn is from other people.
+
Think of change as what you do to remain successful and become even more successful, not as what you'll have to do when your success finally runs out.

Even a dead iMac is still pretty cool...

Definitely not the color I was expecting, but it's alright. Keep it for now.
